The Morel of the Story is...

Our neighbor Mike came over to show Susan something. I watched them from the porch window as they went over to his new steps and stared at the ground. Their excitement was palpable.

This is what they were staring at...

I asked Susan what the fuss was all about. She said Mike had two dozen moral mushrooms pop up after all the rain. They look more like immoral mushrooms to me.

She says they are tasty. I say, if she thinks that, then she shouldn't yell at me for chewing up cat turds.

She says I can't tell anyone our address or mushroom rustlers will come in the night. Honestly!

I bet Mike's dog Johann has already peed on them. Heh.

  1. Would it impress you, Carmella, if I said they were selling at Seward Co-op for about $44 a pound?

    1. Holy Kittens! That's a lot. How many would make a pound, I wonder?

  2. Sorry, but I can't imagine getting excited about mushrooms of any ilk. And, who knows how they got there?

    1. My Uncle Andy says they are "capricious" about where they appear and that everyone has an idea of best growing conditions ... but never knowing where they'll be is what makes the hunt so fun.

  3. Nice to see them I've only seen one in the wild once in my front yard in the cascade mountains of california.

    1. Apparently morels aren't uncommon in Minnesota. But so sought after that if someone shares a location with you...then they have to kill you... uh oh...
